Info

It all started when Robert went to Seattle to visit his sister in ’93. In Seattle, there’s a coffee cart on just about every corner. As you might expect, Robert got hooked on Lattes. When he returned to McHenry, he couldn’t find a Starbucks, much less a coffee house.   The closest one at the time was in Chicago, so, he called Daniel and said, “You must try this Latte thing!” At that point they were both hooked, and they started thinking, hey, we can do this!

Around this time, a friend approached them and asked if they would be interested in going into business together, and viola! the Halsted Street Café was born!

After working in Chicago for about a year, Daniel and Robert found a spot in McHenry where they lived that was the perfect location for a cafe. They packed their bags and set up shop on Riverside Drive in McHenry, Illinois.

Everything was set to go except a name. "We had a few in mind, but nothing that we felt stood out,” remembers Daniel.  Then, one afternoon as they were driving, they remembered a drink one of their customers at the Halsted Street Café used to order. He would walk up to the counter and say “Mocha Mocha Me, please!” As they say, the rest is history.

Daniel and Robert had been in business for three years and they were really tired of the cold. After what was a particularly bad winter, they decided to close up shop and move to Beverly Hills (actually it was Reseda, but close enough).

L.A. turned out to not be the right fit for Dan and Rob so they moved again….This time to (surprise) Arizona. After five years of 106 degree days and 90 degree nights they decided it was time to come home…..So here we are, back in McHenry and lovin’ it!

We are really glad to be back home and we want to thank everyone for all of the love and support you have shown us. Stop in, enjoy some great coffee, food and people.

WE ARE BACK!!!!!

Dan and Rob
